Tuakana Youth Leadership Mentoring Programme – Leadership Workshop, Nov 2015

Leadership NZ has been working in partnership with the US Embassy during 2015 to deliver the Tuakana Youth Leadership Mentoring Programme. The aim of Tuakana is to help guide and develop NZ’s future leaders through personal connections with those who have already started out on the leadership journey. You can read more about the programme and its participants here.

Leadership NZ had the pleasure of designing and facilitating a leadership workshop for the Tuakana participants as their 2015 Programme draws to a close. Sina Wendt-Moore (CEO, Leadership NZ) and Judy Whiteman (Network Connector, Leadership NZ) facilitated the workshop.

The workshop drew together participants and mentors (Leadership NZ alumni) from across New Zealand to spend time deepening their understanding of leadership. Themes explored included communication styles, fearless leadership and the various styles of leadership. Guy Ryan, CEO of Inspiring Stories and Young New Zealander of the Year was the lunchtime guest speaker. Guy inspired everyone with his leadership story and the challenges he has faced to champion young people to step up and play a critical role in creating solutions to the big challenges of our time. Participants also had time to work with their mentors and develop action plans for their ongoing leadership development.

The day was one full of energy, enthusiasm and moments of fearless leadership!

A huge thank you to Ambassador Mark Gilbert and Nancy Gilbert for generously hosting the event and for joining the participants in the various activities. (We were particularly pleased the Ambassador could join as he only arrived back from a trip to Antarctica that morning!).
